Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, announced on Tuesday that he had handed over the act of appointment to Lieutenant General Piotr Błazeusz, who will take up the function of the Polish Military Representative of the Republic of Poland to the NATO and EU Military Committees in August.

“Today I handed over the act of appointment to one of the key positions for Poland's security. In August, Lieutenant General Piotr Błazeusz will take up the function of the Polish Military Representative of the Republic of Poland to the Military Committees of NATO and the EU. This is an extremely responsible mission, which is important for strengthening Poland's position and developing international cooperation,” Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on the X platform.

The head of the Ministry of National Defense wished the general good luck and many successes in carrying out the entrusted tasks.

Gen. Błazeusz will replace Gen. Sławomir Wojciechowski as Poland's representative in the NATO and EU Military Committees.

Lieutenant General Piotr Błazeusz is one of the most experienced Polish generals, former deputy of the General Staff of the Polish Army and former commander of the Eurocorps. As the Ministry of National Defense recalled, the general began his military service at the Military University of Technology in Warsaw, where he was promoted to the rank of second lieutenant in 1994. Then he served, among others, as a NATO specialist in the secretariat of the Secretary of State of the Ministry of National Defense and was deputy defense attaché in Washington.

From October 2011 to April 2012, he was the commander of the Polish Task Force of the 10th rotation of the Polish Military Contingent in Afghanistan. Then, from 2013, he served as the head of NATO's operational department – deputy of the Polish Military Representative to the NATO and EU Military Committees in Brussels. In 2019, he first took up the position of Chief of Staff of the General Command of the Armed Forces, and then deputy chief of staff for strategic development and preparations at the Supreme Command of Joint Forces in Europe (SHAPE). At the same time, he was nominated for another military rank – division general.

In mid-2021, he took up the position of deputy chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army. On August 15, 2022, he was nominated for the next military rank – lieutenant general. From September 2022, he was the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army.

General Błazeusz is a graduate of the US Air Force Academy, the University of Warsaw, the Academy of Humanities in Pułtusk and Postgraduate Studies in Defense Policy at the National Defense University.

He was awarded, among others, the Silver Cross of Merit, the Military Cross of Merit, the NATO Meritorious Service Medal, the Star of Afghanistan, the US Bronze Star and the Afghan Medal for Service to ensure the security and sovereignty of Afghanistan. He made over 500 parachute jumps and was a US Air Force parachute instructor. (PAP)
