Qualified in the play-off of the second league, where, after a first round, it occupies the 6th place, with 39 points, tied with Steaua and FC Bihor, Chindia hopes to at least catch the promotion barrier. Alarming news comes from the City Hall, one of the club's associates.

In the first stage of the play-off, the Târgovists suffered a heavy defeat, 1-5 away from FC Voluntari, the team now in 3rd place, with 42 points. And the next game they have away to Steaua, the only one from the top 6 that does not have the right to promotion.

1.2 million lei from the City Hall, “but expressly only for the payment of debts to ANAF”

But in the March 24 meeting of the Local Council of the Târgoviște City Hall, during the discussions on point 11 on the agenda, Mayor Daniel Cristian Stan announced that another 1.2 million lei will be allocated to the team.

A PLN councilor, Dan Alexandru Tică, had several questions about this draft decision. He complained that “a representative of the club is never present at these meetings, especially when they request such sums of money. Let them explain to us how this money is spent, which we have been giving for so many years and it never ends”.

He was referring to the new president and main sponsor, Marius Pavel, who took over 60 percent of the club, but hopes that “we don't know how much money he has put in so far“.

The mayor could not say what amount Marius Pavel came with, but only said that “he has to come with the difference”. But, also at the insistence of Tică, who wanted the destination of the money to be clearly specified, “not to go on salaries”, the PSD mayor admitted the addition of an amendment.

And he added in the draft decision of the City Council that “this amount is granted exclusively for the payment of older debts of the club to ANAF, accumulated before this year“.

“Now it ends! We don't give any more, not just this year, nothing! We never give the dues again!”

Furthermore, Mayor Stan informed those present that “that's it, now it's over! It's not that we don't give anything this year, we never give again! They can only come to request money on non-reimbursable funds. Here I'm talking about the contribution that falls to us for the 20 percent that the City Hall holds as an associate”.

Mayor Cristian Daniel Stan announces the suspension of the contribution to Chindia

Between the City Hall, the County Council and Marius Pavel there is an association contract, concluded in June 2025, according to which the two public entities each own 20 percent of the club, and the president the remaining 60.

Over the years, however, prior to 2025, the Târgoviște City Hall kept “inflating” the originally established contribution, either after the budget corrections in the fall, or with sports programs that, in total, collected annually around 4-500,000 euros.

Is the association with Marius Pavel breaking?!

Sources close to the club claim that it would be a rift between the city mayor and the new president, because the latter would not have fully paid off his financial promises. And that in the summer, regardless of whether the team will promote or not, this association will fall apart.

On the other hand, other sources close to Marius Pavel state that he would have recently paid 200,000 euros to pay off other older debts, so that the team could receive the right to promotion.

But that this money would have come not from private sources, but also from some financial “injections” from the City Hall and the Dâmbovița County Council.

And what's more, that there would be no conflict with the mayor “only that they probably reached the limit set for 2026. Because nothing is known about any statement by the mayor that they will never pay the contribution again!”.

For the time being, in Barcelona, with 7 teams from Barca Academy Romania, in the U10-U16 categories, participating in the great Barca World Cup competition, Marius Pavel did not offer a reaction to the decision announced by the mayor Daniel Cristian Stan.
