The Lublin prosecutor's office suspects 51-year-old Marcin M. of defrauding 192 people of almost PLN 33 million. According to investigators, the diamond expert promised the victims high profits from trading in precious stones.

The spokesperson of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Lublin, prosecutor Beata Syk-Jankowska, announced on Monday that the suspect and the companies managed by him operated from November 8, 2019 to March 1, 2024, min. in Katowice, Warsaw, Kraków, Bydgoszcz and Poznań.
The prosecutor's office found that through companies managed by Marcin M., a resident of the Silesian Voivodeship, the victims paid money that the suspect was supposed to invest in the purchase and trade of precious stones. In fact, according to investigators, The 51-year-old's business turned out to be a financial pyramid, where nearly 200 people lost almost PLN 33 million.
According to the prosecutor's office, the suspect misled the victims, among others as to the actual purpose of spending the entrusted money, an actual increase in share capital, the ability to settle liabilities on time, as well as the intention to return the funds paid and achieve the economic effect guaranteed in the contract.
According to investigators, the suspect dled 192 natural and legal persons to unfavorable disposal of property of great value in the amount of not less than PLN 32.9 million. The prosecutor's office does not rule out that there were more victims.
Syk-Jankowska announced that Marcin M. did not admit to committing the act he was accused of and provided extensive explanations, the content of which is not disclosed by investigators.
The prosecutor decided to apply non-custodial preventive measures to the suspect: a ban on leaving the country, police supervision, confiscation of his passport and an obligation to pay a million zlotys bail.
The suspect faces 5 to 25 years in prison. (PAP)
