One trillion zlotys for Polish energy. Motyka: Renewable energy is sovereignty, not ideology

Investing in renewable energy sources is not an element of ideology, but an element of sovereignty, said the Minister of Energy, Miłosz Motyka, at a briefing in Gorzów Wielkopolski. He added that in the future, Poland's energy mix will be based on nuclear energy and renewable energy sources.

– In the field of nuclear energy, we quickly carried out the procedure related to the notification of aid for power plants within 12 months. We have guaranteed financing for this investment, which includes investments in electricity, transmission and distribution networks, investments in offshore wind farms, energy cooperatives and communities, as well as new dispatch blocks, amounting to PLN 1 trillion in the coming years, which will be invested in the Polish economy – said Motyka.

He added that these investments are intended to produce energy on site, be able to store it and make Poland even more resistant to the crises that plague the world and better prepared for any type of interruption of raw material supply chains.

– That is why we invest in local balancing sources, in local investments in renewable energy sources and available capacities, simply to be safe, to be sovereign. Our guiding principle is to draw conclusions from mistakes, especially those made by other parties, other countries or reactions to the situation affecting the world, said Motyka.

The minister emphasized that investing in renewable energy sources is not an element of ideology, but an element of sovereignty.

– It is an element of state security. It is in the interest of the Polish raison d'état. We can talk about how to change these regulations at the national and European level to make the system even fairer and to make the procedures much faster, he emphasized.

Motyka said that the ETS system is being revised at the European level, and the voice of Poland and other countries in our region is the leading voice.

– We will do everything in our power to convince and change the ETS system so that it reflects Polish specificity even more and gives a chance for a fair energy transformation – he assured.

During the briefing, a question was asked about how renewable energy sources performed during the recent winter, which was quite severe in recent years. In response, he pointed out that this type of energy sources is dependent on the weather.

– Their generation in the months we are talking about is certainly lower than in other seasons, which is why energy storage is so important. However, it was actually the worst winter in years. We saw this based on the data that the National Power System had. In this respect, it is necessary to maintain available capacity, including gas and coal units (…) When it comes to individual customers, the specificity of each citizen is so different that a thorough analysis should be carried out – we will definitely do it – said Motyka.

According to him, there were no problems with modern heat pumps, but – as he admitted – a difficult situation occurred in the case of pellets.

– This winter has proven that the policy regarding the management of this raw material should be changed, especially here I refer to forest management and proper preparation of the supply chain in advance – he said.

– It turned out that with record demand, record consumption, record exports, we still had a reserve in the system, so from the point of view of these (…) record low temperatures and record consumption, we still had surpluses that we could export. – said Motyka.

The head of the Ministry of Energy came to Gorzów Wielkopolski on Friday for an open meeting as part of the nationwide PSL campaign entitled “Let's talk about Poland.” (PAP)
