Politehnica Iași defeated Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț today 3-0 (2-0) in the first stage of the 2nd Football League play-out. The Iași team thus mathematically escaped direct relegation and only have theoretical emotions related to the presence at the dam.
The distance between Poli and Ceahlăul, which is in the play-off spot in Group A, is 16 points with six rounds to go, and the coach of the hosts, Tibor Selymes, is convinced that his team is 100% saved from relegation.

The ultras from Iași also chanted the name of Vasile Simionaș, the legend of the Polytechnic, who died a year ago, on March 19, 2025.
Bet on children at Poli
Two juniors, Vlad Lăcătusu (born in 2009) and Matei Ciapă (born in 2008), made their debut at the Polytechnic, Selymes saying that he will follow the same line in the remaining stages to be contested.
“I think one hundred percent we saved ourselves. I don't think we're going to lose all the games and they're going to win everything. But we are not on vacation, we have to keep playing to win every game. We will continue to give chances to the children, there will be matches in which some will play as starters.
The base will remain, but in each match I want to deploy one-two-three players. The club must also think about the future. You need kids to play starters next year. We have to give them a chance now, to see who, what they can do. You can see this in official matches, not in friendlies,” said the Iași coach.
