On Wednesday, the Slovak government adopted extraordinary measures related to the situation on the fuel market. Foreigners will be subject to higher diesel prices. At gas stations, you will be able to refuel only the vehicle's tank and a maximum of one canister with a capacity of up to 10 liters.

The price for foreigners is to be calculated by the Minister of Finance. It is supposed to be the arithmetic average of prices in Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland. In Slovakia, a liter of diesel fuel currently costs approximately EUR 1.50. The government has also set a financial limit – one vehicle can be refueled for a maximum of EUR 400. Self-service gas stations or those unable to comply with the new rules will have to remain closed.
At the same time, the government decided to temporarily limit the export of diesel oil from Slovakia. This measure applies to both the European Union and those outside it. Only diesel fuel contained in the vehicle's tank can be exported abroad from Slovakia.
The new regulations will come into force upon publication in the official journal, which, according to Prime Minister Robert Fico, will take place on Thursday. The regulations are to apply for 30 days. According to government documents, the regulations were initiated to stabilize the situation on the fuel market, to ensure a sufficient amount of diesel oil for the domestic market and to prevent its shortages.
At a press conference, Prime Minister Fico criticized “fuel tourism”, as a result of which local shortages of some fuels began to appear in the country. Already in February this year. Due to the interruption of oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline, the Slovak government introduced a state of emergency in the oil sector. Among other things, it was decided to release strategic reserves.
