“Cormorants” are trying to reverse the result of the first leg
After the Turks won the away leg 1-0, Liverpool will be hoping for a big game tonight and turn their qualification fortunes around. In the tour in Turkey, the only goal of the game was scored by Mario Lemina, in a game in which the “cormorants” were powerless. This win was Galatasaray's second at home against Liverpool this season, after they won 1-0 in the league stage.
This weekend, Liverpool recorded a 1-1 draw against Tottenham in the Premier League, while Galatasaray preferred to postpone their game against Goztepe, a match in the Turkish championship.
The coaches of the two teams prefaced tonight's duel.
It's difficult because we've played against them twice and lost twice. The good thing for us is that it's the first game we play at home and we have the support of our fans, who will support us again tomorrow night, because that's what they always have been and always will be for this club.
We always feel like we have the support of the fans, so we never feel alone. Sometimes you feel it after you lose and you get on the court, sometimes you feel alone. But the players, the staff, the family, are always there to support you after a match. I've never felt lonely since I've been here.
– Arne Slot, Liverpool coach
It is very nice to be in this stadium, to enter here, to imagine tomorrow's match here, to play it in our minds. It will be a very important evening for Turkish football, not just for Galatasaray. We have had our ups and downs in our Champions League adventure, but we have gained a lot of experience.
We need to reflect this experience on the ground. We will play against a very good team. Both the players and the coach are big names. Their biggest goal this year is to be successful in the Champions League.
– Okan Buruk, Galatasaray coach
