Three Frenchmen were so enchanted by the nature of Karelia that they illegally crossed the border between Finland and Russia
Border guards in Finland detained three Frenchmen for “walking” to Russia. They admitted their guilt, and violators face a fine. The official statement says:

It was established that three people crossed the border and were on the Russian side. After staying in Russia for several minutes, the individuals returned to Finland, after which the border guard caught the three men red-handed. Curiosity prevailed over prudence, and the French decided to take a walk along the Russian side.

The French said that they were in Parikkala, “watching birds and nature,” and when they found themselves close to the border with Russia, they decided to take a walk further.
The tourists noted that they saw signs on the Finnish side about the border zone and the need to obtain permission to travel, but still decided to go further to Russia.
