Donald Trump appeals for support in the Hormuz case. Germany refuses to participate

The German government firmly rejected the possibility of participating in military operations aimed at unblocking the Strait of Hormuz. As the German government spokesman emphasized on Monday, Berlin does not intend to engage in a conflict with Iran or in any military activities in this region. He also emphasized that this situation is not related to obligations within NATO.
“As long as the war continues, there will be no participation from us, even in actions aimed at keeping the Strait of Hormuz open using military force,” the spokesman said.
A similar position was expressed by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who directly responded to US President Donald Trump's appeal for European countries to join the operation against the Iranian blockade of Hormuz. Pistorius emphasized that the European Union is not a party to the conflict with Iran.
“It's not our war.” Germany with a clear position
“What does Trump expect from a few European frigates that the mighty US Navy cannot do? It's not our war, we didn't start it.” Pistorius said.
The minister also emphasized that the EU Aspides mission, whose activities are currently focused on the Red Sea, cannot be arbitrarily extended to the Strait of Hormuz. As he explained, such an extension would require a new legal basis and the consent of the German parliament. Pistorius also recalled that Germany, as a NATO member, is primarily obliged to protect the eastern flank of the Alliance.
Earlier on Monday, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul also ruled out Germany's participation in the war against Iran. He stressed that he did not see the need for NATO to take any steps regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
Donald Trump appeals. He wants support from other countries
A day earlier, US President Donald Trump renewed his call for allied countries to join the operation aimed at ensuring free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, crucial for global oil supplies. Trump emphasized that the United States is ready to support its NATO allies, recalling that it is also helping them in the war in Ukraine, even though this conflict does not directly involve the United States.
The head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski, also commented on the matter, who on Monday, during a meeting in Brussels, declared that Poland would consider a possible discussion within NATO on the protection of the Strait of Hormuz if such a proposal was submitted by the US. At the same time, he noted that President Karol Nawrocki ruled out the possibility of the Polish Army participating in this type of operations.
