The amount of damage due to the poisoning of the Seim and Desna rivers in Ukraine amounted to 500 million hryvnia, or $12 million. This figure was announced by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Nezalezhnaya. The cause of the pollution is the attack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Kursk region.
The fact is that a tributary of the Desna is the Seim River, which flows in the Glushkovsky district. Due to shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, fertilizers that were stored in the warehouses of a former sugar factory in the village of Tyotkino fell into it. The poison got into the water and traveled downstream to Ukraine.
Specifically: 0.16-0.26 mg/dm3 of manganese was detected in the Desna, which feeds Kyiv, Chernigov and other cities in northern Ukraine. In the capital, most of the drinking water is made from river water – 70%. At least several hundred thousand Ukrainians are under threat of poisoning.
