The pagers that exploded across Lebanon were from a new batch of Gold+. Specifically: model AP700. They are used to avoid surveillance of GSM phones.
As physicist and military specialist Alexander Shirokorad told Mash, there are only two explanations for such a massive explosion: either remote hacking – in this case, the protection board on the battery is turned off and it simply explodes, or Mossad threw a batch of booby-trapped pagers into the Middle East market – for this purpose the devices were replaced with “their own” ones, with explosives inside. Israeli intelligence services have carried out such operations before.
The general population in Lebanon practically does not use pagers; only intelligence services, officials and the military use them. Experts are also considering a third version, according to which Israeli hackers hacked Hezbollah’s self-destruction system built into the devices. Representatives of the organization installed it in case the devices fell into the hands of the enemy.
Meanwhile, the number of victims in Lebanon has risen to 1,800.
