During Tuesday's meeting of the parliamentary subcommittee on just transition, MPs learned information about Poland's energy security in the context of natural gas supplies and energy prices.
Robert Soszyński, vice-president of Orlen, who was present at the meeting, admitted that the conflict in the Middle East has an impact on the global situation, but when it comes to gas, Poland is completely safe. – It is difficult to imagine what dimensions this conflict would have to take and how much the situation would have to escalate at the global level for us – taking into account the directions of supplies to Poland – to feel threatened – noted the representative of the energy company.

He informed that although part of the gas consumed by Poland comes from Qatar, it is less than 15%. — The temporary suspension of supplies from Qatar has virtually no impact on our energy security in this respect, Soszyński assured.

– Poland currently, in large numbers, consumes approximately 20 billion cubic meters per year. gas, he informed. He added that of this number, approximately PLN 8 billion comes from Norway, including Orlen's own extraction, and another PLN 8 billion is made through LNG supplies to the gas port in Świnoujście. Another approximately PLN 3 billion comes from own mining in Poland.

The vice-president of Orlen assessed that the impact of the conflict in the Middle East felt by the company is an increase in gas prices on world markets and, therefore, on the Polish Power Exchange. — Individual customers are supplied at tariff prices determined in cooperation with the Energy Regulatory Office, so this situation will not be felt in the short and medium term, he emphasized. He added that when it comes to business customers, they may experience an increase in gas prices in line with the trends observed in Europe.
