A dog trainer explained how dogs sense pain and their owner’s mood

Dogs are able to detect changes in a person’s condition thanks to their acute sense of smell and brain function. The Russian Canine Federation told the Saratov 24 TV channel about this.

When a person is stressed, sick or afraid, his body changes its smell – hormones are released, which the dog can easily distinguish. For example, trained animals can detect a spike in blood sugar by smell. Over time, the pet begins to associate certain actions of the owner with his well-being: if he lies down, it means he feels bad, and you can come up and put your head on your knees.

Scientists also suggest that dogs have mirror neurons that help read emotions. They are capable of being infected by a person’s mood – being sad next to them, yawning in response, trying to distract them with a toy. Hungarian researchers have noticed that animals' heart rates increase when they hear crying.

Dog handlers take this feature into account when training: there is no need to shout at the dog, it understands intonation perfectly. But constant quarrels in the family can lead a pet to chronic stress and even obsessive states.
