Viktor Orban reacts to the fuel crisis. The Hungarian government will introduce limits


Viktor Orban spoke on social media about the energy crisis. The price limit for gasoline will be set at 595 forints (approx. PLN 6.45) per liter. The limit for diesel fuel will be 615 forints (approx. PLN 6.66) per liter.
The new limits will apply from Tuesday. — The aim is to protect Hungarian families, businesses and farmers – said the Hungarian Prime Minister in a video on Facebook.
The Hungarian government will also release state reserves. Earlier, Viktor Orban announced that he appealed to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in connection with the increase in energy prices in the EU – which is related to the situation in the Middle East – lifted EU energy sanctions imposed on Russia for the invasion of Ukraine.

Viktor Orban has already reduced fuel prices once
Viktor Orban's previous government capped gasoline prices in 2021 in an effort to reduce inflation. This took place before the parliamentary elections that took place in April 2022. The limits were then lifted in December 2022.
The next one will be held on April 12 in Hungary parliamentary elections. Recently, the opposition TISHA led by Peter Magyar has been gaining an advantage over Fidesz in opinion polls.

Due to the war in the Middle East, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz decreased by 90%. It is through this route that approximately one fifth of the world's crude oil and LNG is transported. On Monday, oil prices per barrel rose to $120. (approx. PLN 440).
US President Donald Trump addressed the price increase on his Truth social media site, emphasizing that “a short price increase is a very small price to pay.” The leader also assessed that prices would drop quickly “when the Iranian nuclear threat is completely eliminated.”
