Ovidiu Mihăilă, 52 years old, the selector of the national women's handball team of Romania, commented today's success with Slovakia, 32-19 in stage 4 of the EHF Euro Cup groups, the competition for teams already qualified for this year's European Championship.
In only 4 days, Romania defeated Slovakia twice, 32-26 away, 32-19 today, in Bistrița.
The start was difficult, the first goal was left to wait, the visiting team led 1-0 and 2-1, before the “tricolors” took control of the game. What are the impressions of the selector Ovidiu Mihăilă?
Ovidiu Mihăilă, after Romania – Slovakia: “45-50 minutes at a good level”
“First of all, I want to congratulate the girls. We were expecting a match with a special emotional charge, because these people came to support them and were very happy to be there in large numbers.
The beginning of the game was more difficult because we did not find our emotional balancebut along the way we balanced and managed to do 45-50 minutes at a good level.
Each of the girls tried to outdo themselves, they should be appreciated for that. In the course of 3 days I played two games, plus an away game. The important thing is that they finished healthy, with a consistently good evolution, with the first 5-6-7 minutes until we found our balance.
I thank the people who have been here today, March 8, happy birthday ladies and gentlemen. We are waiting for them wherever we are in Romania to support these girls”, said Mihăilă, the interview being published on the pages of the Handball Federation.
Next is the visit of the world champion
In stage 5 of the competition, on April 8, Romania will receive the visit of Norway, the world champion from 2025. It will be a defining match for winning the group.
“For sure another opponent is waiting for us, we meet the world champion. They will have to be much, much, much more accurate from the first second to the last if we are to hope for a positive outcome.
I trust these girls, that they know how to play such games, with strong opponents. We have to have strong opponents to be able to progress”.
What Cristina Laslo and Ștefania Stoica said
Sensational! I am very happy that we won on home ground. We won both games, we showed our value, you could see the difference between us and Slovakia.
What gives us confidence going forward? The attitude and the fact that we didn't let ourselves get close, like in the tour match.
We try to integrate everyone. It's not easy, I had very few training days, but I had a not so strong opponent and I was able to connect several game relationships. There is always room for improvement, but we leave with a good feeling towards the club teams. I want to congratulate each of the players and staff, I hope they go home with a smile on their face.
– Cristina Laslo, center
It was a very nice atmosphere in my room at Gloria Bistrita. I'm glad it was filled, I can say that the fans gave us energy. We felt very good, we knew it was an accessible and normal match that we made the most of it.
We started to feel better. I am back from a small injury. I was able to connect with the girls, train with them for a day or two, but I think the team did their job and we used this match to make the game connections.
