A video from a closed medical facility in the city of Psedakh, where disabled people are kept, has appeared online. The patients could not talk about what was happening due to speech impairments, and the relatives did not know anything for a long time – the patients were taken out on visits in a neat appearance.
The torture came to light in 2022, when facility staff reported that patients were chained naked to benches and forced to eat from metal bowls with their hands. Director Magomed Daurbekov resigned, avoiding punishment, some of the staff temporarily left their places, but returned.
Some patients were transferred to other institutions, but those who cannot leave remain in Psedakh, and their offenders were not punished. Relatives of disabled people are trying to achieve justice.
