The head of the European Commission demanded that more women be nominated for positions in the EC and that men be recalled from them — Politico
Ursula von der Leyen is putting pressure on EU countries to nominate women for the posts of European Commissioners in the new EC, Politico reports, citing European officials.
According to the publication, von der Leyen wants to “avoid the shame” that she will face if she does not fulfill her promise to “ensure gender balance.”
There are 27 positions of European Commissioners in the EU leadership, this time women were nominated as candidates for only 9 of them.
It is alleged that in some cases the President of the European Commission asked for the withdrawal of already nominated male candidates and put pressure on at least 5 EU countries to replace already nominated male candidates with women.
