Krasnoyarsk surgeons assembled a pregnant woman's broken jaw through her mouth

March 2 10:28

In the Krasnoyarsk Regional Clinical Hospital rescued a 29-year-old pregnant woman with a broken lower jaw.

As the press service of the institution reported, Krasnoyarsk at 9-10 weeks of pregnancy with a fracture was admitted to Department of Maxillofacial Surgery. Due to the pronounced displacement of bone fragments, the council of doctors decided to undergo surgery.

The intervention was performed by the head of the department, Andrei Simonov. The surgeons carried out metalosteosynthesis — reposition and fixation of fragments. The operation was performed under local anesthesia to eliminate the risks of general anesthesia for the mother and fetus. The approach was intraoral, without incisions on the face, bone fragments were compared and secured.

As Simonov explained, the main difficulty was the choice of anesthesia and access. Local anesthesia requires high precision and confident technique. Intraoral access is technically more difficult, but avoids facial scars.

The operation was carried out as planned, there is no threat of termination of pregnancy, the patient is recovering under the supervision of specialists.
