“It will be a game of principle.” The Ukrainian national football team will play in the same group with Hungary in the Nations League


It is reported that the Ukrainian team was seeded from the second basket of League B.

As a result of the draw, the Ukrainian team ended up in Group B2, where its opponents will be the teams of Hungary, Georgia and Northern Ireland.

The matches of the first round of the 2026/2027 Nations League will be held on September 24-26, the second – September 27-30, the third – September 30 – October 3, the fourth – October 4-6, the fifth – November 12-14 and the final sixth round – November 15-17.

The quarter-finals and knockout stages of the Nations League are scheduled for March 25-30, 2027.

Semi-finals, final – June 9-13.

As indicated by the UAF, the 2026/2027 Nations League tournament is linked to the Euro 2028 qualifications.

Participant in the group tournament in League B, where Ukraine will play, if it takes:

  • first place – will rise to League A;
  • second place – will play play-offs with the team that finishes third in the League A group;
  • third place – will play play-offs with the team that finishes second in the League C group;
  • fourth place – relegated to League C.

“Unfortunately, we are playing against Georgia again, but I think that the group is even – we need to prepare and play,” head coach of the Ukrainian national team Sergei Rebrov commented on the result of the draw. “I didn’t really want Hungary, but we will play and there will be a principled game.”
