Raised in the FCSB academy, left midfielder Robert Popescu (22 years old) is the new footballer of CSA Steaua. FC Argeș loaned the player who was the revelation of the Ilfoven fans from FC Voluntari, where he also fulfilled the Under rule, at that time arousing the interest of some leading teams in the Super League.
For Popescu, CSA Steaua is the third senior club in Romania where he plays, after FC Voluntari, Hermannstadt and FC Argeș.

The 22-year-old midfielder was transferred by FCSB to FC Voluntari in 2022. For the Romanian champion, he played only at the junior level and in the second team, in the 3rd League, without debuting in the first team, being considered a perspective player at that time.
Popescu left Voluntari with the relegation of the team, managing to score 3 goals and provide 2 assists in 31 official matches for Ilfoveni. Later, he was transferred to Hermannstadt, for which he also scored 3 goals in 33 official matches.
After a season spent in Sibiu, he arrived at FC Argeș, a team considered the revelation of the Superliga, but for the people of Arges he only made 3 appearances: two in the championship and one in the Romanian Cup.

Popescu can debut even at Voluntari
Robert Popescu is quoted by the specialized website Transfermarkt at 150,000 euros. For the “military”, this represents the fourth transfer of the winter, after the formation prepared by Daniel Oprița also brought Nacho Bonet (Spain), from CF Can Vidalet, Alexandru Berbecaru, from CS Păulești, and the Hungarian Andras Huszti, a player free of contract.
CSA Steaua is in 8th place in League 2, with 30 points after 17 stages. The team from Ghencea is involved in the fight for play-off qualification, but does not have the right to promotion in the Superliga.
The championship will resume on February 19, when CSA Steaua will play away from home against FC Voluntari, the player's former team, from 17:30.
