Russian attacks paralyze Ukraine's energy sector. Poland responds to the appeal


According to Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, Russian attacks targeted substations and overhead transmission lines with a voltage of 750 kV and 330 kV, as well as thermal power plants in Bursztyn and Dobrotvor, which are located in the west of the country. Dobrotwór is located only 60 km from the Polish border. “Russian criminals carried out another massive attack on Ukraine's energy facilities,” Shmyhal wrote on Telegram, emphasizing that energy companies are ready to make repairs as soon as the situation allows.

Poland supports Ukraine in the energy crisis
Minister Miłosz Motyka announced via the X platform that Poland responded to the appeal of the Ukrenerho operator. “Exports to Ukraine take place while maintaining the security of the Polish energy system. Polish Power Grids monitors the situation on an ongoing basis and remains in contact with the neighboring operator,” he declared.
As a result of the Russian attacks, Ukrenerho introduced emergency shutdowns in most regions of Ukraine. Some parts of the country, especially in the east and north, have special shutdown schedules. Szmyhal also reported that the power units of one of the nuclear power plants were temporarily turned off by the staff.
Fire in the Roshen warehouse and further energy losses
During the night attacks, there was also a fire in a warehouse in the city of Yagodz in the Kiev Oblast. According to Ukrainian media, the facility belongs to the Roshen company, owned by former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. The State Service for Emergency Situations (DSNS) confirmed that the cause of the fire was a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle attack.
The DTEK energy company reported that as a result of Russian airstrikes, the equipment of its thermal power plants in various regions of the country was seriously damaged. “This is the tenth massive attack on our thermal power plants since October 2025.” – emphasized in the company's statement. Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, DTEK facilities have been attacked more than 220 times.
