The end of the myth of the national average? The Central Statistical Office reveals data on wages in the Polish economy

The median gross monthly salary in the national economy in Poland in August 2025 (the latest available statistics) was PLN 8,000. This is the so-called median, which means that half of employees in Poland receive more and half less than this amount.

In August 2025, the median gross monthly salary increased nominally by 0.5% compared to July 2025, and compared to the same month last year it increased nominally by 8.7%. Let us recall that the monthly data published by the Central Statistical Office on wages in the enterprise sector cover companies employing at least ten employees (approximately 40% of all those working in the Polish economy). In turn, the data published today by the Central Statistical Office concern the national economy, which is the broadest approach because it also includes statistics among others from micro-enterprises, natural persons running a business, non-financial enterprises, as well as public sector entities, member organizations, foundations, associations, economic self-governments, employers' organizations, political parties, trade unions and other social organizations.
Wage differences depending on gender and company size
The value of the median salary varied depending on gender – in the case of men it amounted to PLN 7,000. PLN 543 (103.6% of the total value), while among women – PLN 7,000. PLN 045 (96.8% of the total value). Taking into account the age of employees, the highest value of the median salary was recorded in the 45-54 age group – it amounted to PLN 7,000. PLN 568 (104.0% of the total value), while the lowest in the age group 24 years and less, where it amounted to PLN 5,000. PLN 878 (80.7% of the total value).

The difference between the highest and lowest median value according to the entity's location was PLN 6,000. Which companies earn the best money?
Salaries also varied depending on the type of activity. In August 2025, the highest median was 11,000. PLN 535, recorded in the Information and communication section. In the public sector, the highest median salary was in the Financial and insurance activities section (PLN 13,246), and in the private sector – in the Information and communication section (PLN 11,600). In 16 of the 19 analyzed sections of PKD 2007, the median remuneration of men was higher than the median remuneration of women; the largest percentage difference occurred in the Financial and insurance activities section – it amounted to 35.0%. In 3 sections, the median remuneration of women was higher than the median remuneration of men, the largest percentage difference occurred in the Construction section – it amounted to 38.2%.
