Alexander Zverev is enjoying an excellent run at the Australian Open, where he has reached the semi-finals of the tournament, and German tennis legend Boris Becker suggests his success may have an off-court explanation. In the stands, at Zverev's matches, a famous name from the fashion world constantly appears: Caroline Daur.
The 30-year-old German model was frequently seen with Zverev even before the start of the first Grand Slam of the year and was also present in the quarter-final victory over the American Learner Tien (6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1, 7-6 (3)).
Boris Becker, on the possible idyll between Zverev and Daur: “It seems changed”
Her presence did not go unnoticed, and Boris Becker addressed the subject in a podcast made with Andrea Petkovic.
“That blonde woman from Hamburg is always there. Does she play a role?Becker wondered, suggesting that there might be more to it than just friendship.
The former world number one also noted Zverev's change in attitude after a mentally difficult season.
“Last year he had serious mental health problems, and now he seems extremely balanced, always in a good mood. Is there something going on that we don't know about?” Becker said.
Zverev's reply: “I'm bothered by the rumours”
Alexander Zverev, officially in a relationship with German presenter Sofia Thomalla, reacted before the tournament to the speculations in the German press.
“I want to focus on facts, not rumours. It's annoying when people make things up“, said the 28-year-old tennis player, according to sportnieuws.nl.
The publication BILD also notes an interesting detail: during the Australian Open, Sofia Thomalla did not post anything about Zverev's performances, although in the past she used to do it after every important victory.
For Zverev, the duel follows on Friday, in the semi-finals of the Australian Open, against world leader Carlos Alcaraz.
