“It is abominable to take advantage of a man like this”

Dan Bâra, producer of the show Breaking Betsbroadcast every day on GSP, from 1:00 p.m., opened today's show with a harsh opinion on the moderator Dan Capatos, from the Cancan publication, who conducted a second interview with the fugitive Mario Iorgulescu, yesterday.

  • Context: Dan Capatos did a first interview with Mario Iorgulescu on January 12. Mario made several incendiary statements and his father Gino, the president of the LPF, came out the next day and condemned the interview, saying that he had not given his consent and that Mario had been run from the clinic where he was allegedly receiving treatment.
  • Last night, Mario gave new statements for Dan Capatos.

Here is Dan Bâra's opinion:

“I would like to talk about something that, frankly, shocked me, horrified me this morning. I saw that Dan Capatos did an interview again, this time via video on the Internet with Mario Iorgulescu. It was an absolutely terrible, absolutely inhumane thing that the so-called Dan Capatos, the so-called journalist after all, was able to do, because he probably imagines that he is a journalist.

Well, he is not a journalist, he is not even a man, he is what Hannah Arendt called “the banality of evil”, looking at the files of Adolf Eichmann (one of the architects of the “final solution”, extermination of Jews and other minorities in the Second World War) before the Nuremberg trial. Hannah Arendt burst out laughing and said that, please, I'm just paraphrasing her, that we're not talking about an infernal genius here, but a banal person, lacking much intelligence.

Well, this is where I think Dan Capatos is also classified, who here has no other resources to do his job than taking advantage of Mario Iorgulescu's condition. I'm not talking here about the accident, I'm not talking about Mario Iorgulescu's fault, I'm not talking about anything like that, but I'm talking about a man who clearly needs help, who looks like he's addicted, that's the impression he leaves us with.”

“In his interview with Dan Capatos yesterday, Mario said he had a few drinks with Dan Capatos before the first interview a few weeks ago. That's what he says. Dan Capatos does not deny this at the time Mario makes this statement, but only a little later, when the discussion had taken another turn, saying: “Oh, I only drank a Coke Zero”.

Well, Mario then adds: «With all the money you gave me, I bought drugs and booze». He admits that he was running away from the clinic at the time of the interview and, as Gino Iorgulescu stated later, that the family had forbidden this interview to Dan Capatos.”

“However, this did not stop the so-called journalist from going there, to create a problem, because we are talking here about a person who, beyond the fault he has in that accident, is a vulnerable person brought before the public, manipulated, to enter into all kinds of discussions about his personal life.

From a human point of view, this is absolutely unacceptable: to take advantage of a man suffering from problems of one nature or another. We don't know exactly what problems Mario Iorgulescu is suffering from, but all in all, it was something absolutely terrible that happened in this interview.

Likewise, if you saw that discussion that occurred at one point between Mario and Fulgy, absolutely abominable what happened there, absolutely terrible, disgusting discussion, that a man who would seem to have no mental problems, like Dan Capatos, resorts to such things. It's inhumane what Dan Capatos did in his rush for the audience. It disqualifies him not only as a journalist, because we all know he is not a journalist, we have known him in public life for 20 years, but as a human being it disqualifies him.

Why am I talking about this? Because these are matters that need to be discussed in public. They must be discussed in order not to repeat them. There are boundaries that need to be set, and if these discussions don't exist, then those boundaries will always be violated. This day-to-day rush that we are all in often causes us to turn a blind eye to the little slip-ups, the little slip-ups that ultimately create the framework for the horrors that are happening in the world right now. So it's our duty as people, not just as journalists, to sanction such behavior.”
