“Polish airports served 29.7 million passengers in the first half of 2025, which meant an increase (…) of 11.8%. compared to the same period in 2024 and by 28%. compared to the first half of 2023. (…) In the second quarter of 2025, almost 17.5 million passengers were served, which gave an increase of 11.9%. compared to the second quarter of 2024 and 26.3 percent compared to the same period in 2023,” the Civil Aviation Office reported in its latest report.

The number of air operations also increased – in the first half of last year. amounted to over 215.7 thousand, i.e. by 9.3%. more than in the first half of 2024 and by 24.8 percent more than in the same period of 2023. In the second quarter of 2025 alone, the number of operations amounted to 123.8 thousand, i.e. increased by 10.2%, respectively. and 24.5 percent relative to the second quarter of 2024 and 2023.

Records at Okęcie, sharp braking in Modlin

The CAA noted that both in the first half of 2025 and in the second quarter itself, the highest increase in the number of passengers among airports was recorded by Warsaw Chopin Airport – +1.3 million and +748.2 thousand, respectively. passengers. He added that Kraków-Balice airport also recorded “high increases” in these periods – an increase of 953.3 thousand. and 479.9 thousand travelers.

In turn, the largest decreases in terms of the number of passengers in the entire half-year and in the second quarter were recorded at the Warsaw-Modlin and Warsaw-Radom airports. In Modlin, the decline in the first half of 2025 was 43.5%. and – as indicated by the Office – it was related to the reduction of the offer from this airport by Ryanair. In Radom, the decline was 28.8%. In the second quarter of last year Warsaw-Modlin airport recorded a decline of 42.9%. per year, and Radom – by 29.1%.

“Significant increases were recorded by LCC carriers (low-cost carriers – PAP), in particular Ryanair and Wizz Air, which were one of the main drivers of growth at Polish airports. Most airports recorded positive traffic dynamics,” the CAA also reported.

Ryanair and Wizz Air are driving growth

According to the report, these two lines served the most passengers and had the largest quantitative increases in the first half of last year. among low-cost lines. Ryanair had 682.1 thousand passengers more, and Wizz Air – by 836.8 thousand. more. Among the network carriers, PLL LOT served the most passengers; this line also had the largest increases in the number of travelers (514,000 more). Apart from LOT, the largest increases in the first two quarters of 2025 were recorded by Air Arabia and SAS – noted the CAA.

Low-cost carriers still have the largest market share, but they are growing at a similar pace to network carriers, it was reported. However, the highest growth dynamics from January to June was recorded by charters – 14%. The largest market share in the first quarter of last year. had Ryanair (31.96%) and Wizz Air (21.96%), followed by: PLL LOT (16.42%), Enter Air (5.50%) and Lufthansa (3.47%). In total, low-cost airlines had 58.7 percent. Polish market, regular carriers – 30.3 percent, and charters – 10.9 percent.

The CAA report also shows that the number of passengers on international routes in the first half of 2025 increased by 12.4% annually. (12.2% y/y in the second quarter). Domestic traffic increased by 3.5% respectively. and 6.4 percent

What directions? The UK, Italy, Spain and Egypt reign supreme

In international regular transport in the first half of 2025 (similarly in the second quarter), the most popular travel destination from/to Poland was Great Britain, followed by Italy and Spain. The largest quantitative increases were also recorded in Italy and Spain. The most popular charter destination in the first half of 2025 was Egypt, followed by Türkiye and Greece. The largest quantitative increases were achieved by Egypt, Spain and Türkiye – similarly to the second quarter – reported the CAA. He added that Türkiye was the most popular in the second quarter, followed by Egypt and Greece.

ULC also noted that an increase was also recorded in the average number of passengers per cruise – in the first half of 2025 it increased annually from 135 to 139 people, and in the second quarter – from 140 to 142 passengers. As explained by the Office, this was the result of increasing the size of the aircraft by approximately 3 seats on average. The seat fill factor was respectively: 84.1%. (increase by 0.4 pp yoy) and 85.3 percent (decrease by 0.4 pp yoy).
