The Nordea Group intends to carry out group layoffs in its Polish branches, the lodz.wyborcza.pl portal reported. The job cuts will cover over 100 employees in Łódź, Tricity and Warsaw and concern both Nordea Bank ABP SA and units providing IT support for the Scandinavian giant.

The Provincial Labor Market Observatory in Łódź announced that group layoffs will take place in Nordea's Polish locations. This was confirmed by Katarzyna Mendelson-Maciejak, Nordea's communications manager, in a statement for the website lodz.wyborcza.pl.
Layoffs at Nordea in Poland
The job cuts will affect 105 IT employees in three places: Łódź, Warsaw and Tricity – both specialists, managers and long-time employees. Nordea explains this as a new stage of the strategy, which “requires the development of our way of working and ensuring the appropriate structure and competences enabling the effective implementation of key business priorities.” The dismissed people will receive support, but Nordea does not indicate whether there will be any additional benefits or how long the entire process will last.
It is known that the layoffs will be carried out in the branch of Nordea Bank ABP SA in Łódź, which employs approximately 3,000 employees, as well as in other units, where another 3,000 people work. The offices support banking processes and IT operations after Nordea Bank ended its retail operations in Poland in 2014.
The crisis in the IT industry continues
As Wyborcza Łódź notes, layoffs at Nordea are part of a broader phenomenon of employment reduction in the IT industry. Last August, Fujitsu decided to reduce jobs in its Polish branches, while cuts were made globally by, among others, Indian TCS and currently French Capgemini. Group layoffs are explained by rising labor costs, which also translates into fewer offers for IT specialists.
