“I am under the supervision of doctors, I hope to recover quickly”

The 80-year-old coach also suffered a severe cold during Christmas, staying in bed for the Holidays. He received treatment, but did not recover, which is why he missed the presence in the training camp of the Romanian teams in Antalya.

The coach was not present at the matches of the first stage of League 1 in 2026. He also wanted to attend a few matches in the Turkish championship, to study Romania's opponents from the World Cup qualifier in March.

Mircea Lucescu, hospitalized due to a severe flu

Health problems prevented him Mircea Lucescu to follow his plan, and the selector arrived at the hospital this week, according to prosport.ro.

According to GSP information, Mircea Lucescu had serious problems this month also due to an infection at the table. From the hospital, the selector also offered a brief reaction.

“I'm hospitalized, it's true. I was hospitalized for a while, at the beginning of the year, then I was discharged. But in the meantime I caught a severe flu and I had to be hospitalized again, because I also had a high fever, 39 degrees. I'm under the supervision of doctors, I hope to recover quickly,” said Mircea Lucescu, according to golazo.ro.

In the training camp in Antalya, Lucescu sent his collaborators, led by Jerry Gane and Florin Constantinovici, to follow the Superliga teams.

Mircea Lucescu had heart surgery in the past

It is not the first time that Mircea Lucescu faces health problems. In 2009, while coaching Shakhtior, the technician underwent heart surgery in Donetsk. The doctors then installed a stent to fluidize the blood circulation.

Last year, the selector had an operation on his right hip, due to coxarthrosis. Mircea Lucescu was fitted with a prosthesis by Dr. Vlad Predescu, one of the most respected orthopedists, member of the American Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology, at the Ponderas University Hospital.

In 2023, also due to coxarthrosis, Lucescu was operated on the right left hip, in Kiev.
