Newcastle prevailed at home against PSV, score 3-0, in a match of stage #7 of the group stage of the Champions League.

Dennis Man was the starter and played for 62 minutes. He was exchanged for Esmir Bajraktarevic. The first two goals came on the back of huge blunders.

Huge blunders in PSV's defense, Newcastle charged them twice: Dennis Man, absent in the first half

PSV started on the offensive, trying to break the hosts' defense on Trippier's side. Peter Bosz's men pressed in the opening minutes, but Newcastle went up the lines and began to put pressure, especially in the area of Gasiorowski and goalkeeper Kovar, footballers who did not catch a good day.

Dennis Man was not looked for in the first minutes of the game, PSV's play flowed more on the left flank. Newcastle's aggressive pressing paid off in the 8th minute: Kovar made the wrong clearance, Bruno Guimaraes made a perfect stop, passed in space to Joelinton, and the Brazilian served Wissa with a pass that was not at all aesthetic. The top of Newcastle did not forgive and sent the ball into the goal.

Dennis Man was first seen around the 13 minute mark when he forced a through, but Newcastle's defenders pushed him towards the touch and the Romanian dropped the ball out of bounds.

Terrible night for Gasiorowski and Kovar

PSV struggled to create chances, Newcastle showed too much defensive solidity for “wingers” Perisic and Man. The Dutch tried to create through the middle and pressurize the English mistake, but were uninspired in attack, with Dennis Man trying to squeeze as much as possible into the center. After the first 30 minutes, the statistics showed zero for shots, shots on goal and corners for the Dutch. Instead, they had only one touch in the opposing box.

The mistake came, instead, in the Dutch defense in the 30th minute: Gasiorowski wanted to pass to Kovar, in a phase that did not announce anything, but did not give intensity to the ball, Wissa “pinched” the ball and passed to Gordon, alone with an empty goal. Newcastle began to smell blood and let the attacks go.

PSV woke up towards the end of the first half, but Newcastle's defence, often with two lines, prevented the Dutch from not only to create danger, but to step into it. The low defensive block prepared by Eddie Howe paid off, and at the end of the first half PSV recorded the first shot on goal through Wanner, after a Dennis Man execution on the lawn in the 45+4th minute. Newcastle, on the other hand, although with a 2-0 advantage on the table, lost Bruno Guimaraes, who was injured.

PSV, numb and in the second half! Dennis Man, substituted in the 62nd minute: saw Barnes' gem from the bench

In the second half, PSV came out still numb. Peter Bosz's team tried to bite, but without teeth. They tried a few attacks, again in the center, but without great success and without great emotions for the fans of “Cotofene”. Peter Bosz, in an attempt to get speed on the flanks, replaced both wings in the 62nd minute, Dennis Man and Ivan Perisic, but the result was not what was hoped for.

In just three minutes Harvey Barnes weaved his way through the Dutch defense and beat Kovar with a shot from the box. After this moment, PSV fell completely. “Coțofenele” tried to strike again through the new entrant Woltemade in the 75th minute, but Kovar caught. From this point in the game, the tempo settled down and the two teams played a lot in midfield. One shot on target and one corner for PSV at St James's Park.

The standings in the Champions League

These three points are very precious for Newcastle. Today's victory moved them up to 7th place in the Champions League standings, thus a direct qualification place in the round of 16. PSV have dropped to 22nd and are trembling for a place in the play-offs.
