Huge surprise in the Romanian sports world! Less than a month after Bogdan Matei announced that he was resigning, the former ANS president is preparing to return to office!
According to GSP.ro sources, the order to reinvest Matei in the position of head of the National Sports Agency is already prepared on the agenda of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. And he would make the announcement in the next few days.
In new times, he too! Bogdan-Constantin Matei, the former and new head of ANS!

At the same time, appointed interim president of ANS for 30 days, Thomas Moldovan will return to one of the two positions of vice president of the Agency, as he was before.
Appointed at the helm of the ANS in mid-January 2025, Bogdan Matei decided to give up this position only 10 months later, on December 17, 2025. While at that forum the Court of Accounts was approaching the conclusions of a proportional control, which lasted for a year, following which numerous irregularities were found.
Not only in the activity of the ANS from the period 2021-2025, but also in terms of prizes awarded following the results of the Olympic Games, from the Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024 editions.
Matei resigned on December 17
Matei announced in December 2025, on social networks: “I'm stopping for a moment from my professional path! Not to rest, but to dedicate myself entirely to my family. A question that came to my mind far too often: what would you choose in the path of life at a given moment, work or family? I choose FAMILY!”
Thank you to all of you who have been with me in the most honorable position of President of the National Sports Agency. Thank you to all those who serve the country every day in the name of Romanian sport.
There are politicians who believed in me and I thank them: Constantin Rădulescu, Marcel Ciolacu, Sorin Grindeanu! Happy holidays to everyone”. And on December 24, the prime minister signed the order to change the head of the Agency.
The same GSP.ro sources that at the time it was about some health problems of Bogdan Matei's wife, who has been struggling with a serious illness for some time. Now her health has improved.
And following discussions with the prime minister, he agreed with the return of Bogdan Matei as ANS president. Practically, it would be his third mandate at the head of Romanian sport, after those from November 2018-November 2019 and the previous one, from January 2025 to December 2025.
GSP.ro tried to contact Bogdan Matei, for a point of view, but for now he has not responded.
