North Macedonia produced a huge surprise in Romania's group, on Sunday evening, in the “Jyske Bank Boxen” hall, in Herning, Denmark, in the second stage of the European Men's Handball Championship, against Portugal, drawing 29-29, after an absolutely dramatic end.

Portugal, the team that defeated Romania two days ago, on their debut in the competition, started as the big favorite against North Macedonia, defeated in the inaugural round by Denmark, the big favorite for gold.
The Lusitanians looked like they would have no emotions against the North Macedonians, but the finish was absolutely stunning and marked a fairytale comeback.
North Macedonia, equal with Portugal in Romania's group
Macedonia had odds 12.00 to win this match, but the difference between the teams was not seen on the floor. The North Macedonians even led a few times at the beginning of the confrontation, but not by more than two goals, 4-2, after which the Portuguese balanced the game and even took over the reins of the match, score 7-6.
From that point, it was tie or advantage for the Portuguese, who only once saw themselves led, at 10-9. By the break, the better rated team went to +2, 15-13 being the score of the first half hour.
The second half, however, started fabulously for Portugal, who looked like they would have no more emotions on their way to their second group success.
From 15-13 it became 18-13, and Portugal stayed at +5 several times in front of North Macedonia, which reinvented itself and made an incredible comeback in the end.
25-21 was Portugal, at which point the opponent accelerated and succeeded in the comeback, equalizing at 26, after a partial 5-1.
It went back and forth until 29-29, and the last 50 seconds were crazy. Portugal, on the attack, asked for a time-out, but any attempt to score was blocked by the Tomovski wall, who parried twice, from a 1:1 position with the opponent.
It ended 29-29 in the end, with Portugal on the attack with no idea of scoring the winning goal, North Macedonia pulling off a totally surprising result and earning their first point of the group.
Kuzmanovski, with no less than 15 goals, more than half of what his team scored, was named the MVP of the game.
