The third day of European men's handball championship it offered spectacular comebacks, history-making results, a first big surprise and plenty of spectacular phases.
- Romania returns to the scene on Sunday, from 21:30, against the big favorite Denmark. The match will not be televised. It will be possible to watch liveTEXT on GSP.ro and on the Voyo streaming platform.
Group A: Germany, surprising failure
Spain, a national team under reconstruction, had an easier match than expected against Austria. The first half was perfect for the Iberians, won 19-12. They allowed themselves to relax in the second half, easy triumph, 30-25. The distribution of Spanish goals is also remarkable. No player scored more than 4 times.
I am very happy with the group that was assigned to us. We don't have any easy games, we have to be alert at every moment. We have already met two good teams, now we focus on Germany. I don't know if our form will improve or if we will start to tire, but I can accept that we will fight every time. The duel with Germany excited me since the draw. It is one of the strongest national teams in the world, but we are not afraid of anything
– Ian Barrufet, Spanish extreme left
The big surprise came in the second match of the day. Germany started as clear favorites against Serbia, led by 4 goals at halftime, but inexplicably collapsed at the end, Serbian victory 30-27. Goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev contributed 12 saves, but the MVP was voted Stefan Dodic (4 goals from 4 shots).

The result messed up the group calculations terribly. Spain have the maximum points, but would be sent home in the event of a failure of at least 3 goals against the Germans, doubled by Serbia's victory against Austria.

Group C: France, historic victory
France – Ukraine, score 46-26, goes down in Finals history for a number of reasons. The largest ever European margin was equalled. No other team had ever managed to score 46 goals!
“We managed to stay focused and serious throughout the game, we gave minutes to all 15 players. We were also able to rest Aymeric Minne a bit, I'm sure we'll need him in the upcoming games. The first turning point in the tournament will follow, the match against Norway. We can't wait!”, were the conclusions of French coach Guillaume Gille.
Norway, one of the hosts, had great emotions in front of the Czech Republic. At halftime, the score was equal, 16-16. The Czechs also led with two goals in the second half, but they lost 25-29. An asset of the Nordics was represented by the 8034 fans present in Oslo's Unity Arena.
France and Norway are mathematically qualified for the next stage. They will duel in the direct match to determine the final position and how many points they will advance in the main group.

Group E: wins for the favourites
Group E, scheduled for Malmo, debuted today. In the first match, the favorite Croatia had a serious fight against Georgia, victory achieved in the end, score 32-29. The Georgians also led with 6 goals in the first half!
Of course we are disappointed, especially since we had started the match well. We lost a few easy balls at the end, that's where the difference was made. I'm proud of my team! I know I gave everything I had. Four or five colleagues played with cramps, with pain. For me it's the first match at the EURO, I can't help but be proud. We showed again that we can play on equal footing with anyone. We will try to qualify for the next stage
– Nikoloz Kalandadze, Georgia left winger
With 11,800 spectators in the stands of the Malmo arena, Sweden could not lose to the Netherlands. The Nordics prevailed 36-31 and it proves that the pundits were right when they said that the Swedes and the French seem the only ones capable of causing problems for the favorites in Denmark.
The MVP of the Sweden – Netherlands match was named Felix Claar, scorer of 8 goals from 9 throws. Rutger Ten Velde stood out from the Batavian camp, 9 successes.
