War reparations from Germany. President Nawrocki proposed a form of repayment


During the New Year's meeting with the Diplomatic Corps, the President referred to the issue of war reparations. He expressed hope that “a solution will be found for unresolved issues regarding the past.”

— In addition to legal responsibility, there is also moral, political and financial responsibility, which is not subject to a statute of limitations. Over 80 years since the end of World War II the German reparation debt was not repaid to Poland. I am reaching out for cooperation, hoping that this approach will be reciprocated, he said.
Specific proposals
The president recalled that during last year's visit to Berlin he presented specific proposals regarding reparations. — Germany's growing defense spending could be used to purchase cutting-edge equipment, including American equipment, which would then be transferred to Poland. My country, as a key country on NATO's eastern flank, stabilizes the security of the region, including the security of Germany, said Nawrocki.

According to calculations from a report prepared in 2022 by the Parliamentary Team for Estimating the Amount of Compensation Due to Poland from Germany, chaired by MP Arkadiusz Mularczyk the total sum of Poland's war losses caused by Germany's aggression is PLN 6 trillion 221 billion, and converted into American currency USD 1 trillion 532 billion.
The main part were human losses, because the number of people killed or maimed was estimated at 5.2 million. Material losses were estimated at over PLN 797 billion.
