It seemed that Marius Ștefănescu has his days numbered Konyaspor. Bought from FCSB for €300,000 in the summer of 2025, the winger failed to impress at his new team. In the 5 months he spent in Turkey he was used in only 11 games, playing an average of only 23 minutes per game.
At the beginning of the year, the Turks wrote that Konyaspor's new coach, Cagdas Atan, does not have the Romanian in his plans, which is why he did not even do the winter camp with his colleagues.
Left with no options, Ștefănescu would have asked for another chance at Konyaspor
In this context, the publication Pusula Haber writes that Ștefănescu would not want to end his accounts with the Konya team in the same way: “Marius wants to stay at Konyaspor and he asked the coach for another chance for the second part of the season“.
The scenario in which Ștefănescu will stay at Konyaspor is reinforced by the reports of another publication, BBN Haber. It writes about how Konyaspor “has problems with Romanian Marius Ștefănescu” and invokes FIFA regulations, which state that a footballer cannot play for 3 teams in the same season.
How Ștefănescu has official matches for FCSB and Konyaspor, if he left now, he'd assume he'd be stuck until the summer anyway.

Turkish journalists add: “It is unclear under what conditions Ștefănescu, who has a 3-year contract with an annual salary of 440,000 euros, would leave. He should (no – in case of unilateral termination) for the player to be paid 1.1 million euros for the remaining two and a half seasons of his contract”.
It remains to be seen if the former Romanian international will get another chance at Konyaspor. He scored only one goal there, that one in the Turkish Cup.
Before Konyaspor, Marius Ștefănescu played 49 matches and scored 9 goals for FCSB. His best spell remains at Sepsi OSK: 37 goals and 26 assists in 191 appearances.
