The decision of the ayatollah regime is dictated by the recent statements of Donald Trump, who threatened Iran with intervention. US threats “undermine diplomatic efforts”, therefore contacts aimed at finding a diplomatic solution to the dispute over the Iranian nuclear program were canceled, the source told the agency.

On Tuesday, Trump once again in a matter of days called on protesters in Iran to continue their protests and announced that the US would come to their aid if necessary. Trump also announced that he had canceled all meetings with Iranian officials.

Mass protests have been going on in Iran since December 28, which were initially triggered by the country's economic problems, but over time turned into the largest anti-government demonstrations in several years, brutally suppressed by the security forces.

At the beginning of last week, President Masoud Pezeszkian admitted that the crisis was caused by the authorities' negligence. He also called on security forces to refrain from attacks on protest participants.
