The US military announced on Saturday that it had carried out several strikes against the Islamic State group in Syria as part of an operation launched by Washington in December after an attack on US personnel, reports Reuters.
In recent months, the US-led coalition has carried out airstrikes and ground operations in Syria targeting Islamic State, often with the involvement of Syrian security forces.
“Today's strikes targeted ISIS in Syria,” the US military's Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.
The statement did not say whether anyone was killed in the operation, and the Pentagon declined to provide further details.
Saturday's attacks were part of an operation launched last month after Islamic State militants killed US military personnel in Syria, CENTCOM said. Two US soldiers and a civilian US military interpreter were killed in the December 13 incident.
There are still around 1,000 US troops in Syria.
The Syrian government is led by former rebels who ousted former president Bashar al-Assad in 2024 after a 13-year civil war, and includes members of the former al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria who broke away from the group and fought against Islamic State.
Syria cooperated with the US-led coalition against Islamic State, reaching an agreement late last year when President Ahmed al-Sharaa visited the White House.
