The “Nerazzurri” come after six consecutive victories in the championship
Cristi Chivu's side are going through an excellent period in Serie A. At the moment, Giuseppe Meazza's side are leading domestically, with a three-point lead over arch-rivals second-placed Milan, four lengths ahead of Scudetto-holder Napoli and tonight's opponent.
In the previous round, the vice-champion of Italy and Europe beat Parma 2-0, in the first return of the Romanian technician to the Stadio Ennio Tardini as an opponent, a result that recorded the sixth consecutive success for Inter in the championship.
Between these six victories, however, there were also two less happy results. The first of them is the failure at home against Liverpool in the Champions League, where the “nerazzurri” succumbed on the limit, score 0-1, and then came the elimination from the Italian Super Cup, 2-3 on penalties with Bologna (1-1 after 90 minutes), in the semifinals of the competition that Napoli eventually won.

On the other hand, Antonio Conte's team is in dire need of a win to climb to the top of the Italian standings.
Napoli's four-point deficit to Inter at the moment is mainly caused by the draw recorded by the “en-titre” champion in the last leg of Serie A, only 2-2 at home to Hellas Verona, a team currently occupying 18th place in the hierarchy, first below the red line.
This result is all the more surprising as the group at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona ended 2025 on a high note. “I Ciucciarelli” won the Italian Supercup after two emotionless victories against Milan and Bologna, respectively, both 2-0, after which they passed both the newly promoted Cremonese and Lazio by the same score in the championship (the match with Maurizio Sarri's team was the first contested by Napoli in 2026).
The moral advantage of today's guests can be represented by the victory in the round match against Inter. Then, Conte's students prevailed 3-1 against the current Serie A leader on “Maradona”.
