“The US is ready to help!”
In recent days, Trump has repeatedly warned Iranian authorities against using violence against protesters. “Iran is looking towards FREEDOM, perhaps like never before. The US is ready to help!!!” — he wrote on Saturday on the Truth Social platform. Demonstrations in Iran have been going on for 15 days, and according to the opposition station Iran International, the number of victims has exceeded 2,000. people. This information is based on witness accounts because Iranian authorities have cut off access to the Internet, which makes it difficult to verify the data.
According to “NYT”, US officials are analyzing how to implement Trump's promise to punish the Iranian regime while avoiding an escalation of the conflict. Particular attention is paid to the actions of Iran's security services, which brutally suppress the protests. There is a risk that a possible military attack could mobilize Iranian public opinion to support the government in Tehran.
A senior US military official noted that commanders of American forces in the Middle East need more time to prepare combat positions and protect themselves against potential retaliatory attacks from Iran.
