Russia has banned the sale of Nestle baby formulas

7 January 15:05

The circulation of Nestle infant formula is temporarily prohibited in Russia, Rospotrebnadzor for the Krasnoyarsk Territory reported.

According to the agency, the restrictions include dry instant milk, fermented milk and lactose-free mixtures and dry mixtures based on amino acids for therapeutic dietary nutrition with the trademarks NAN 1 OPTIPRO, NAN 2 OPTIPRO, NAN Supreme, NAN EXPERPRO, NAN lactose-free, PreNAN, NestogenComfort, “Alfare Amino” with production dates from April 15 to November 27, 2025.

“The reason is the possible presence of the toxin cereulide. The toxin was detected in raw materials from an external supplier (vegetable oils). Symptoms after consuming a product high in the toxin cereulide may include vomiting or diarrhea within six hours of consuming the product. Such symptoms are similar to those of food poisoning, as well as allergies to cow’s milk proteins,” the regional Rospotrebnadzor clarified.

Experts added that these mixtures are not subject to mandatory labeling in Russia. Therefore, consumers need to take this information into account when choosing products.
