Egypt, featuring Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, qualified for the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after beating Benin 3-1 in extra time.
In the opposing camp, there were two players from the Romanian SuperLiga: Yohan Roche, the Petrol defender, starter for the entire duration of the competition, and David Kiki, registered with the FCSB, who, however, was not used in this match either.
Balanced match, decided after 120 minutes
The first half of the duel played in Agadir ended without goals and without notable phases. The statistics were surprising: no corners and only two shots on goal, one for each team.
Egypt opened the scoring in the 69th minute through Marwan Attia (Al Ahly). Benin eventually came back and in the 83rd minute, Jodel Dossou, a player registered in the lower leagues in France, restored the tie and sent the match into extra time.
Roche, substituted in the 106th minute » Kiki returns to FCSB without a single minute played
In the 97th minute, Egypt took the lead again, after the success of Yasser Ibrahim (Al Ahly). The victory was secured by Mohamed Salah, who scored in the 120th+4th minute of overtime, setting the final score, 3-1.
Yohan Roche started and played until the 106th minute, being replaced when Salah's team was already leading 2-1. David Kiki was not introduced this time either and will return to FCSB without having clocked a single minute at this edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.
