A Leeds United fan died at Elland Road on Sunday after being taken ill ahead of their Premier League game with Manchester United. The club officially confirmed the tragedy through a statement.
The incident happened before kick-off when the fan suffered a medical emergency in the stands. Despite the quick intervention of the medical staff, his life could not be saved.

Leeds United sent an emotional message after the tragedy:
Leeds United are devastated to confirm that a supporter has sadly passed away following a medical emergency ahead of today's game. The thoughts of everyone at the club go out to the supporter's family and friends at this extremely difficult time.

The club did not provide any further details about the identity of the fan or the exact circumstances of the incident.
The match was played and ended in a draw
Despite the tragedy, the match between Leeds United and Manchester United started at the scheduled time, 14:30, and ended in a draw, score 1-1.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, through Brenden Aaronson, but the advantage lasted only three minutes. Matheus Cunha restored parity in the 65th minute, providing the final score of the encounter at Elland Road.
The Leeds incident occurred just hours before a similar incident at Fulham v Liverpool, a Premier League match which had a delayed start due to a medical emergency in the stands. The game at Craven Cottage later ended with the score 2-2.
