Prime Minister Bolojan says that there was a blocking minority at the CCR that postponed a decision regarding the special pensions of magistrates

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan commented in an interview on the last event at the Constitutional Court, on December 28, when four judges boycotted the meeting where a decision had to be made regarding the magistrates' pensions.

Ilie Bolojan specified that this subject, of special pensions for magistrates, must be resolved as quickly as possible so that the law can enter into force.
“It was very good for the CCR to resolve as quickly as possible any kind of request regarding the constitutionality of a draft law. The faster these decisions are made, the more the law can enter into force and not be delayed. Without having inside data, but from public reports, it seems that in order to avoid making a decision, a blocking minority was formed that postponed this decision. I hope that the resources and wisdom will be found that a decision be made on January 16″, said Ilie Bolojan.
The Prime Minister expects more common sense from the CCR judges.
“I try to avoid potentiating internal conflicts. If I were to consider it, things can be interpreted. It was a decision they made after thinking about it to other aspects, not to a certain coordinated decision. I hope that wisdom, normalcy and common sense will prevail. If a formula is not reached in which 6 judges are present…it's abnormal like in this court, don't adopt political blocking tactics, postponement. You make reasoned decisions. If you are still paid a good amount in Romania, do your duty by being present at decisions and making decisions as your conscience dictates”, Ilie Bolojan also said.
At the last meeting on December 28, the CCR judges could not deliberate on the law on service pensions due to the lack of quorum, only five out of nine magistrates being present in the room. Thus, it was decided that the next meeting will be on Friday, January 16.
