Tropics on the windowsill: growing a pineapple from the top is easier than it seems

If you're dreaming of a vibrant plant that evokes the beaches and ocean, start with pineapple. This is not just a juicy fruit. Its top easily grows into a slender, unusual plant with tough, crescent-shaped leaves. It will not give new pineapples in the apartment, but it will become a bright accent of the interior and a reason for pride.

You don't need seeds, a greenhouse or special soil. All you need is the top of an eaten pineapple, water and a little patience.

How to grow pineapple at home:

  • Select a ripe pineapple with a green, firm top.
  • Gently twist the top at the base until it comes off easily. Or cut with a knife, leaving 1-2 cm of pulp.
  • Remove the lower leaves to expose the stem.
  • Leave the top to dry in a warm place for 2-3 days to prevent rotting.
  • Place the stem in a glass of water so that only the bare part touches the water and the leaves do not.
  • Place in a warm, bright place out of direct sun.
  • Change the water every 2-3 days.
  • After 2–4 weeks, roots will appear.
  • Replant the pineapple in a pot with light, well-drained soil.
  • Water sparingly only when the soil is completely dry. It's better to underfill than overfill.

In just 2-3 months you will have a living, exotic plant with a dense rosette of leaves that purifies the air and does not require daily care. It does not bloom in the apartment and does not bear fruit, but it pleases the eye every day
