German airline Lufthansa refused to carry Jewish passengers and was fined $4 million
The US Department of Transportation made this decision after 40 complaints related to the flight. It turned out that the airline had banned 128 passengers dressed in traditional Jewish clothing from boarding a connecting flight in Germany.
Lufthansa believed that the company of more than 100 people was going to fly in one group, but many of the passengers did not even know each other. This fine is the largest ever issued by the Ministry of Transport against an airline for violating civil rights.
“The terrible irony is that it was a German airline that did this,” – noted the Biden administration representative for combating anti-Semitism.
