Approximately every 11 years, the magnetic poles of the star change places, and the Sun emerges from a quiet state – the natural processes of the star begin to more strongly influence the operation of the earth's satellites, communication and navigation systems, radio, GPS and the power grid.
Researchers suggest that the maximum phase will last about another year, after which the Sun will enter a decline phase.
