“We cut workers, but we pay for the Kremlin's war” – the Germans called on the EU to strengthen sanctions against Russian metal.
The largest German steel company Thyssenkrupp Steel opposed the import of metal from Russia. They said that they were forced to reduce their own production, but continued to finance the Russian war machine.
“This is grotesque: we are forced to lay off people while we buy slabs from the Russians. I can't explain it to any of my employees,” said the company's CEO, Dennis Grimm.
The German Steel Federation also demands a complete ban on Russian slabs and semi-finished products, the import of which is still allowed in the EU.
“This exception to sanctions is absurd. He directly supports the war. It must be closed – with sanctions or tariffs,” the Federation said.
