CBOS report on consumer sentiment. Poles are becoming more and more optimistic


According to the December report of the Public Opinion Research Center (CBOS) 36 percent Polish households are hopeful about their financial situation, while the percentage of pessimists is 27%. The “Consumer moods in December” study also reveals a reduction in the number of people limiting expenses for current needs and those who have to resort to loans to meet them.

More Polish households save and limit expenses less
Compared to previous months, less households declare the need to reduce expenses – their number has dropped from 48 percent up to 37 percent The percentage of people borrowing money for current needs has also decreased and is now 10%, compared to 13% previously. At the same time, the number of households that managed to save increased – from 50%. up to 54 percent

Inflation and income prospects
Although inflation has been falling recently, as much as 23%. respondents are still afraid of the acceleration of price increases, and half of the respondents believe that prices will increase at a similar pace as before. Only 16 percent respondents expect slower price growth in the coming year.
CBOS analysts also note a slight increase in the number of people expecting an improvement in income in their households – from 34%. in October to 37 percent in December. At the same time, the percentage of those who are afraid of a decline in income remains unchanged at 16%.
The report highlights an improvement in the perception of overall future prospects. Optimism and pessimism in this category are currently at a similar level – 34% and 34% respectively. and 36 percent Two months earlier, pessimism clearly dominated, reaching 43%. compared to 30 percent optimists. It is worth noting that since January 2025, optimism has regularly outweighed pessimism when assessing the financial situation of one's own household.

Poles assess their financial situation. Pessimism still dominates
CBOS experts emphasize that despite the general decline in concerns, a pessimistic perception of the situation still prevails in most of the surveyed areas. The largest difference between pessimism and optimism is visible in the assessment of the country's economic situation (45% compared to 18%), while the smallest concerns the general prospects in the respondents' immediate environment (37% compared to 29%).
The consumer sentiment index (WNK) is currently 3.9 and is slightly higher than in October. This means that respondents express optimism in four out of ten aspects examined.
The CBOS survey was conducted on December 1–3, 2025, using computer-assisted telephone interviews and online interviews. One thousand adult residents of Poland took part in it.
