Free of contract for 3 months, Daniel Popa is expected to sign with the Romanian team

The Romanian striker Daniel Popa (30 years old) is ready to return to Chindia Târgoviște, a team in 7th place in League 2, but which proposed a return to the Super League. Free of contract for 3 months, after parting with the Turks from Genclerbirligi, Popa would not refuse such an option.

The former striker from Dinamo and FCSB terminated his contract with the Turks in September, after he had contributed to the promotion of the team in the first league. Now, he is wanted by Florin Gardoș, the new sports director of Chindia, according to DB-sport.ro.

Rumors regarding a possible return of Popa to Chindia Târgoviște were fueled by his presence at Saturday's match with CS Dinamo, won by the people of Dâmbovița, score 2-0.

Moreover, he trained in the last weeks with the team prepared by Ilie Poenaru.

Following this result, Chindia ends 2025 in 7th place, with 30 points, 2 behind CSM Reșita, the occupier of the last play-off position.

Daniel Popa played 16 matches for Genclerbirligi, during which he scored 8 goals. He is quoted by the specialized website Transfermarkt at 600,000 euros. He marked the last official match on August 9, when his former team lost 1-2 at Samsunspor's ground.

In the shirt of the Târgoviste players, the striker scored 40 goals and 11 assists in 132 games, becoming one of the most important players in the club's history.

Trained at the clubs from Dâmbovița (Fieni and FCM Târgoviște), Daniel Popa also played for Chindia Târgoviște, Dinamo Bucharest, FC Botoșani, Daejeon Hana (South Korea), Cluj University, FCSB and Genclerbirligi (Turkey).

He has a title of Romanian champion with FCSB, a Romanian Supercup and a League Cup.
