The town hall of Ciumeghiu commune in Bihor county was fined 70,000 lei, and a bulldozer rented by the local administration was confiscated, after it was caught with the help of a drone while it was being used for illegal waste management in a field in the area, the Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, announced on Saturday.
According to her, the machine was used for the illegal storage of plastic, textile and vegetable waste near an agricultural road. Legally, this waste should have been sorted, disposed of or recycled.
The Minister of the Environment specifies that it is about massive waste storage, spread over an area of approximately two hectares.
“As a result of the findings, the bulldozer was confiscated, and the Ciumeghiu City Hall was fined 70,000 lei,” Diana Buzoianu said.
At the same time, the Ciumeghiu administrative-territorial unit was tasked with the sanitation measure of the area where the clandestine waste storage was discovered.
“I congratulate the representatives of the Environmental Guard for this action and because they have already started using drones to identify environmental crimes or contraventions!” concluded Diana Buzoianu, Minister of the Environment.
The drones of the National Environmental Guard were purchased from PNRR. The photos and videos taken on the ground by them can be used as evidence in court, according to an Emergency Ordinance adopted on September 18.
The Environmental Guard made the first control with drones on October 15 in the Ilfov village of Sintești near Bucharest, which has become famous for the illegal burning of waste.
