US soldiers in Europe. Americans have a firm commitment


The bill expected to be voted on this week requires that each decision to reduce the armed forces in Europe was supported by detailed reports prepared by the head of the Pentagon and the European Command (EUCOM). These documents must include consultations with NATO allies and partners and provide an assessment of the impact of such actions on U.S. national security.

Currently, there are over 80,000 stationed in Europe. American soldiers, including about 10,000 is located in Poland. Last year, the Pentagon announced its decision to withdraw one of the infantry brigades rotating in Romania, which sparked criticism from Republicans. The new regulations are intended to prevent similar actions in the future, which could be undertaken without appropriate consultations.
American support for Ukraine and the Baltic states
The bill also provides significant funding to support international allies. $400 million will be allocated to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), under which the US finances the purchase of weapons for Ukraine.

Another $175 million. will go to the Baltic Security Initiative — a program aimed at strengthening the defense of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Importantly, BSI has been included as a permanent program of the Pentagon, which means long-term support for the Baltic states.
American investments in Poland and changes in the defense budget
The draft bill also includes investments made by Poland in bases where American armed forces are stationed. The list included, among others: training ground in Drawsko Pomorskie, ground forces base in Powidz and air bases in Łask and Wrocław. The total value of these investments is USD 504 million.
The total defense budget approved in the NDAA is $901 billion.which is an increase of USD 8 billion. compared to the budget request of President Donald Trump's administration. It is worth noting that, unlike in previous years, the project did not mention the European Deterrence Initiative (EDI) program, which previously financed the increased presence of US forces in Europe.

The new draft NDAA is the result of months of negotiations between representatives of both parties in Congress. Its provisions are aimed not only at securing American interests in Europe and Asia, but also at strengthening support for key allies such as Ukraine and the Baltic states. The adoption of the act will mean the continuation of US military involvement in strategic areas of the globe, as well as a clear signal to allies and potential adversaries about the US determination to maintain global security.
