In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a disabled girl waited six months for a replacement for a faulty ventilator

A disabled girl from Krasnoyarsk managed to get a new ventilator only with the help of the prosecutor’s office, the department’s press service said.

A 7-year-old child from Krasnoyarsk has been struggling with a serious illness since birth. The girl cannot breathe on her own, so she needs a ventilator. Doctors recognized her as a patient who required comprehensive support to relieve her symptoms and improve her quality of life. She was given two ventilators – a main one and a spare one. A second device is necessary in cases of power outages and when it is necessary to transport a child.

“The spare device failed in the spring, and the medical institution was in no hurry to repair it. For six months, the family lived in fear – any power outage could cost the girl her life,” the press service said.

The audit confirmed that the disabled child’s right to receive assistance was violated because the institution did not provide maintenance of the equipment. The prosecutor's office made a presentation to the chief physician of the Krasnoyarsk Interdistrict Children's Clinical Hospital No. 1. The faulty device was sent for repair, and the girl was given a new, working ventilator.
